Our Story

Commander Thomas Ouchterlony of the Guynd, offered land to build a new community hall at a site that suited the community of Carmyllie. The first plans for the new hall were mooted as far back as the 1930's and funds were raised, however the war intervened and it wasn't until 1960 that the foundations were laid.

The architect, Peter Young of Roger and Young, Brechin, planned a Scandinavian design with timber roof slates that was the wonder of many a passer-by, was the building was unique. The hall opened in 1960, and a crowd of over 500 watched the ceremony despite the cold wind and showers.

The playing fields were levelled and opened in 1963 and have proved popular for many years for organised picnics and later for various hobby clubs and events. The hall has served as a community for over 50 years, with meetings and functions held most weeks. A hall committee was formed to organise maintenance, hall bookings and fund raising.
